Method

  1. Prepare the Apples: Preheat the oven to 180°C (160°C fan/Gas Mark 4). Core the apples and slice them evenly into thin wedges. Toss the apple slices with the ground cinnamon in a large bowl until they are well coated with the warm, spiced flavour. Arrange the slices in an even layer in a baking dish to ensure even cooking.

  2. Make the Crumble Topping: In a small bowl, mix together the chopped walnuts, almond flour, melted coconut oil, maple syrup (or runny honey), and a pinch of sea salt. Stir until the ingredients are well combined and a crumbly texture forms. The almond flour and walnuts will create a rich, nutty topping, while the maple syrup adds a natural sweetness.

  3. Assemble and Bake: Spread the walnut mixture evenly over the apples, making sure each slice gets a generous amount of the crumble. Bake in the preheated oven for 15–20 minutes, or until the apples are tender and the topping is golden brown. You’ll know it’s done when the apples are soft and slightly caramelised, and the crumble is fragrant and crispy.

  4. Serve: Remove from the oven and let the dish cool for a few minutes before serving. Serve the baked apple slices warm, either on their own or with a dollop of Greek yoghurt or a scoop of dairy-free ice cream for a truly comforting treat.
